Evaporation Rate Calculator

Area of the liquid surface
Liquid temperature
Ambient relative humidity
Air velocity over the surface
Saturated vapor pressure at temperature

Calculation Explanation

This calculator estimates water evaporation based on mass transfer. It uses an empirical correlation for the mass transfer coefficient based on air velocity. The evaporation rate is then calculated from this coefficient, surface area, the vapor pressure difference (saturation pressure at liquid temp vs. actual air vapor pressure based on humidity), molar mass of water, gas constant, and absolute temperature. Heat required is the evaporation rate multiplied by the heat of vaporization.
