Calculation Explanation

This calculator estimates the volume of acid or base needed for pH adjustment. It assumes a generic buffer capacity (beta) of 50 mmol/L/pH unit. The required moles of H+ or OH- are estimated by multiplying the solution volume, buffer capacity, and the absolute difference between target and current pH. The reagent volume is then found by dividing these moles by the reagent concentration. Note: This is approximate, especially for complex buffers.
